Our History

Named for owner David Gelston Floyd’s ancestral home of Brecknockshire, Wales, Brecknock Hall was constructed between 1851-1857. David Floyd, grandson of William Floyd, established a track record in Greenport as a shipping magnate, whaling fleet owner, bank president and legislator.

Brecknock Hall was Floyd’s family residence, and leftover stone was used to build Floyd Memorial Library in Greenport Village. A restoration project spearheaded by the Brecknock Hall Foundation gave new life to this historic gem, allowing it to be used for weddings, celebrations, cultural events and educational programs.
